Timeline – AOC

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, is a member of the Democratic party, serving in the 14th district of New York.  Ocasio-Cortez attended Boston University, where she double-majored in international relations and economics, graduating cum laude.  Her previous jobs entailed bar-tending and being a waitress.

She quite often puts out video’s describing her feelings on various topics.  Her followers and disciples love her dearly on social media.  This video, I saw on Twitter, awhile back, caught my eye.  Why?  Well as an Econ major, it makes me wonder how they teach the subject at her alma mater, Boston University. Here she confuses Milton Keynes, a town in England, with John Maynard Keynes, a very famous Economist, talked about endlessly in the authors early Economic college classes.   And most likely, Milton Friedman, another famous economist from the second half of the 20th century.  Ie, MILTON F, and John M. KEYNES, do not equal Milton Keynes.

Is Boston college just a diploma mill, accepting Federal Student Loan monies with no regard to course content?

I have asked a number of younger people as why they have such high expectations of Ms Occasio-Cortez and it seems to center around her perceived intelligence.  I ask for specifics and it seems her policy goals center around the proverbial idea of government helping more and more.  All fine and good, but isn’t their concept of intelligence really empathy?

2022-Dec-07 Democratic controlled house launches an ethics investigation into AOC acceptance of gifts

The House Committee on Ethics issued a statement that it is investigating Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).  With the holidays fast approaching it is expected that any real investigation would take place once the new congress is sworn in this January.   House rules allow members to accept free tickets to charity events.  But with non charity media conglomerate Conde Nast controlling the invitations their could be a case that AOC may have violated house rules.

2019-Nov-17 AOC beats Amazon

Time reported that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declared victory when Amazon announced Thursday that it would not build a second headquarters (known as HQ2) in Queens, New York.  AOC was against the tax breaks being offered to the company to locate in the city.  Governor Cuomo stated the HQ2 would have brought “at least 25,000-40,000 good paying jobs for our state and nearly $30 billion dollars in new revenue to fund transit improvements, new housing, schools and countless other quality-of-life improvements.”  HQ2 would have been in AOC’s district.   Now these jobs can go elsewhere.

AOC’s reasoning is that Amazon pays little in Federal Taxes.  But, Amazon, has had the habit of investing everything back into growth.  Given tax laws for years allowed expensing of capital items, rather then using multi-year deprecation, this will occur.  She won’t say that it is congress at fault here.  Which she is a member of.
