Middle View – Not the Left, nor the Right, but in the middle, ideally with Common Sense and Fairness

Kamala Harris – Kamala Harris got her seminal start in politics via Willy Brown, once of California’s most powerful politicians of the 20th century, whom she had a relationship with in the 90’s.  Mr. Brown was married, but “estranged” from his wife Blanche Brown since 1981.  Willie Brown has acknowledged giving her appointments (jobs), that furthered her career, and a BMW.   One of the jobs, at the California Medical Assistance Commission, where she served until 1998, only required attending two meetings a month for a $99,000 annual salary.  And he also helped her win her first race for District Attorney of SF.  When they met she was 29, he was 60, in 1994 when Brown was Speaker of the Calif Assembly. A large age disparity. She was undoubtedly swooned by his fatherly charm.

Before becoming a Senator from California Kamala was Attorney General for the state of California.

  • Around Mar 24th, 2019, Kamala made her first policy announcement regarding pay increases for teachers via Federal Help. The Washington Post reported teachers make an average of $11K less per year than similar professions with college degrees. They make less then engineering graduates with a Bachelors. But they also work less days of the year, because of school vacations. Kamala’s home state of California doesn’t pay teachers well in low income communities, and even with a $20B surplus, has not devoted additional funding to increase teachers pay. She is now senator, she could move forward with this now. But, this will lock in the teacher vote for her for just a few billion.
  • Reparations – Supports Reparations for Black Americans.  Her father has stated she is a direct descendant of Black Slaveowners.   So, her support here may be caused by some type of guilt. Or maybe a bit of pandering for votes.

  • Kavanaugh Hearings – During the fall of 2018, she and Corey Booker walked out as the pressure was a bit too much.  Ideally, she would have sat thru this.  She seemed to lack a sense of temperament during this situation.
  • Jussie Smollett Case – When this incident was first aired, Kamala called this a “modern day lynching”.   It was later determined that Jussie had set up the attack for attention.   She jumped to a conclusion a bit too quickly here.  She has had two bills introduced in the Senate, and passing in the Senate, but not in the House, nor signed by the President, that deal with Lynching, S.488 and S.3178, so she obviously she cares about this subject.  Lynching, ie murder, has been illegal for quite some time, but it was not a Federal crime, if passed it would be a Federal crime.
  • Racist Remarks against Jamaican’s – Kamala received a public scolding from her father when she responded about smoking marijuana, “Half my familys from Jamaica. Are you kidding me?”.  Her father responded negatively stating, “My dear departed grandmothers (whose extraordinary legacy I described in a recent essay on this website), as well as my deceased parents, must be turning in their grave right now to see their family’s name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics,”

Policy View Points

  • Reparations – Kamala has come out with a “Lift Act“. :Give people who are making $100,000 or less as a family a tax credit, which will benefit and uplift 60 percent of Black families who are in poverty,” she explained. 🐼
  • Trade – She opposed the Trans Pacific Trade Agreement (TPP). She opposed Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminum. But his against tariffs on electronics which come primarily from China.
  • Website – Her website, does mention some of her views.

Unique Ideas

  • Renter’s Credit – Renters who spend more then 30% of income on rent & utilities, would get a credit from the government. Check from the gov would be distributed monthly. Renters making up to $125K would benefit. 🐼 The credit would be capped by local district (how many districts?). Harris also supports efforts to invents in housing construction. (more houses usually is the best way to lower housing costs).

  • VERDICT:  Lacks the temperament for the job.  And jumps to conclusions a bit too quickly. But would probably be tough on most non-immigration related types of crimes.
