Middle View – Not the Left, nor the Right, but in the middle, ideally with Common Sense and Fairness

Note: As I was working thru my blog, updating everything, with Super Tuesday, Mar 3rd two days away, Pete Buittigieg announced he was withdrawing from the race.

I considered both Pete Buttigieg and Andrew Yang the only reasonably intelligent people running on the Democrat side, even though I had disagreements of with some of their idea’s. Will this leave Bloomberg, and maybe Klochubar as the only reasonable candidates?

Pete Buttigieg, the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana. He is openly gay, married and won his mayoral seat with 80 percent of the vote. He has degrees from Harvard and Oxford, and took a seven-month leave for active duty as a Navy Reserves lieutenant in Afghanistan. His midwest background could help him standout against a field of the standard, blue state coaster democrats.

Defense –

  • China – Wants to hold China accountable for Intellectual Property theft and currency manipulation. But does not think Trump has a strategy.
  • Iran – Like Trump, has said Iran poses the greatest threat to Israel in the middle east. Buttigieg was a Navy Intelligence officer in Afghanistan.
  • North Korea he appears to not like Trump having talk with the North Korean Dictator, stating , “This president seems committed to talking to our enemies but seems to have a little more trouble talking to our friends,”

  • Education – Believes in free college for low and middle income students.
  • Health Care – He supports Medicare for All.
  • Reparations – Pete affirmed to Al Sharpton that as president, he would sign a bill that would start a study of reparations. He also apologized and agreed to stop using the phrase “all lives matter”.
  • Minimum Wage – Believes in the $15/hr minimum regardless of locale in the US.
  • Religion – In an interview Pete stated, “The left is rightly committed to a separation of church and state … but we need to not be afraid to invoke arguments that are convincing on why Christian faith is going to point you in a progressive direction.”
  • Trade – Against NAFTA as he believe it has moved jobs out of the midwest. And believes the Democratic party needs to work harder to advocate for working people. But against steel and aluminum tariffs.
